Gran Torino

January 25th, 2009 by admin

I just finished watching Gran Torino with Christine and I must say It was a fantastic movie.  The trailers did not do that movie justice.  Clint was fantastic as the acting role.  But more importantly, for all the racial slurs and political incorrectness, the movie comes around full circle.  Clint befriends a family of a culture he does not understand.  and at the end [spoiler alert] gives his life for their well being.  I was really left with a lasting impression and cannot shake this movie out of my head.   Real or fictitious, I feel I understand veterans a little bit more.  It also gives me something to aspire to, namely my grumpy old man syndrome.  I can only hope that I am as cool as Clint was in the movie when he gets enraged by the youth of today.  Immediately after I checked to see in Gran Torino was nominated for an Oscar. What the hell.  Now I have not seen most of the Oscar Nominated movies but i cannot imagine that all of them are better than Gran Torino.  Oh well.  What am I gonna do about it.

IT’s Great to Have Well Scripted Shows!

January 18th, 2009 by admin

Big love returned this evening.  Thank the celestial heaven.  This season started off great with us being thrown right back into the family.  They caught us up early on and went straight into the dysfunction of the functional family.  Alby keeps getting better and better as they explore his homosexual tendencies.  It makes for great crazy.  Did I mention how much I love the opening credits.  We got to see all the major characters even if only for one scene, but it helped getting me right back in the mood.  HBO series are like that great prostitute you find on craigslist, bone a couple of times, and then she disapears for a couple of years.  Im sure most of you know what that feels like.   The ending of the season opener even made me cry a little. I know, GAYYYYYYYYYY.   Well,  now that the season opener aired I’m sure we will be counting down the last remaing episodes till the finally.  [Sarcasm] Oh! and by the way.  the fourth wife is pretty hot.  sounds like Borat.  Oh, and one more thing.  Albys latest wife who helped poison Roman is the girl on House that died last season.  It really bugs me seeing her because that episode of House really scard me.

Aiden and Chase’s First Snow Day

Ever watch Christmas Vacation and wonder how Clark tries to plan a perfect holiday vacation only to see it all blow up in his face throughout the movie?  That was what it felt like after two weeks of planning and getting the boys gear for their first snow day.  We went up to Arrowbear off the beaten path inbetween Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear to a secluded spot that Sam had discovered in the past.  After getting stuck in the snow with my car not once but twice we got the boys in their snow suits and took them up the hill.  Chase had a great time going down on the sled with me and Mom.  He also wanted to build a house in the snow.  Aiden on the other hand wanted nothing to do with anything.  He refused to put his hat and his gloves on.  He hated the snow and did not even want to step foot on it.  I guess 50 percent happiness is the most you can ask for.  After I got some runs in with Chase who everytime we got to the bottom turned around and asked “Lets do it again” We decided to call it a very short day.  Aiden did not stop crying the entire time.  Oh well.  It was their first time and hopefully once we build up the courage to try it again they will be a little more used to it.  In all it was fun especially when Sam had to tow my ass out of the snow with his strap. Here are the wonderful pics Briana took.

Golf Anaheim Hills

Jaclyn asked me to write more blog posts this month so here is one.  Jack, Doug and I went golfing yesterday.  We went to the Anaheim Hills Golf Course.  I had never played there and I must say it was a very beautiful golf course.  The bad news was that it was really busy and We only played 12 of the 18 holes. It really sucked.  I had a very horrible game. I don’t really want to talk about it.  Jaclyn was really good. I had never played with her. And although she does not crush the ball she plays straight and consistant.  SHE CHEATS THOUGH!  HAHAHA,  Doug was teeing of great but that was about it.  Also the golf carts had computer screens that showed the position of the other golf carts and distances to them and the center green.  I thought they where pretty cool and had never seen them before.  It was overall a very good time especially after Jacks and I coffee with double Irish cream.  You can see the pics of the day here.
